Itinerary

DAY
01

Puno - Uros - Amantani

The tour starts at 7:45 am with a transfer from your hotel to the port of Puno. You’ll board a motor boat and meet your bilingual guide. The first stop will be the Uros floating islands, where you’ll visit two of the more than 50 floating islands. Your guide will provide insight into the lifestyle of the people who live on the islands, and you’ll have some free time to explore, take pictures, and interact with the families. This visit usually lasts about one and a half hours.
Next, you’ll take a three-hour boat ride to Amantani Island, where you’ll spend the night with a local family. Upon arrival at the port of Amantani, the families will greet you and take you to their homes for a delicious lunch. They’ll also guide you to the meeting point for the optional hike in the afternoon, where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking sunset from the highest point on the island, which is 4150 m.a.s.l. or 13600 feet.
In the evening, after dinner, the families will organize a local party and provide you with traditional dress for an optional activity.

02

Amantani - Puno

The next day, you’ll have an early breakfast with the family before they take you to the port of Amantani to say goodbye. From there, you’ll take a one-hour boat ride to Taquile Island, famous for being the “best weavers of Peru.” You’ll enjoy a beautiful hike on the island and visit the town square of Taquile to explore the handicraft shops and see the weaving. The square is also the highest point of the hike, which is 3950 m.a.s.l. or 12960 feet. You’ll have free time to visit a local family home and learn more about Taquile Island and its people. Finally, you’ll finish the hike at the second port of the island and take the motor boat back to the mainland, finishing the tour at around 3:30 pm.

Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen: Protect yourself from the strong sun at high altitude with these items.
Hiking shoes: You will be walking on uneven terrain, so comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes are a must.
Water bottle: It’s important to stay hydrated at high altitude, and you can buy a water bottle on the islands if you don’t bring one with you.
Money in soles: The exchange rate for dollars is very low, so it’s best to bring money in the local currency.
Sleeping bag (optional): If you prefer to bring your own sleeping bag, it’s optional.
Rain jacket/rain poncho: The rainy season is from October to March, so it’s essential to have a rain jacket or poncho with you in case of rain.
