Activities

Day 1
Welcome to the Amazon! Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, join a 2-hour journey by bus and boat till the lodge. Enjoy the jungle landscapes, check-in at Posada Amazonas Lodge, and take a guided hike to the Canopy Tower.

Day 2
Wake up early and take a guided boat ride and hike to Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake to see giant river otters and other lakeside wildlife. Visit Centro Ñape to learn about medicinal plants. Take a guided night walk to see frogs and other nocturnal animals.

Day 3
Take a guided boat ride and hike to the Parrot Clay Lick to see parrots and parakeets. Take a guided hike to see the largest tree in the vicinity, a giant ceiba tree. Visit a local farm to learn about Amazon crops.

Day 4
Check out of Posada Amazonas Lodge and take the journey back to the city to the airport for your national flight onwards. Your visit will make a direct contribution to the Native Community of Infierno in their efforts to protect Tambopata.

01

Arrival at Puerto Maldonado: Begin Your Amazon Adventure with Scenic Bus and Boat Journey to Posada Amazonas Lodge

Your adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado, capital of Madre de Dios, where you’ll embark on a two-hour journey by bus and boat to reach the Posada Amazonas Lodge. Along the way, you’ll get a taste of the delicious Amazonian cuisine while taking in breathtaking views of the jungle landscapes.
At the Posada Amazonas Lodge, you’ll stay in a spacious eco-lodge owned by the Native Community of Infierno, who are dedicated to preserving the rainforest. Your accommodation will include a 45 square meter room with a private bathroom and an open wall facing the forest. You’ll also have access to a bar, a massage center, and a buffet service.
During your stay, you’ll enjoy three meals daily, teas, coffee, guided excursions and activities, refreshments upon arriving, and transfers to and from the airport. We assign guides at 10:1, ensuring that you’ll have personalized attention and a truly immersive experience.
One of the highlights of your trip will be a hike to the Canopy Tower, a 40-meter scaffolding that offers spectacular views of the Tambopata River and the surrounding rainforest. From atop the tower, you might even spot toucans, parrots, or macaws flying against the horizon or mixed species canopy flocks landing in the treetops next to you.

Wildlife Spotting at Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake and Medicinal Plant Trail at Centro Ñape in the Amazon Rainforest

you’ll have the opportunity to see some of the Amazon’s most incredible wildlife. The Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake is just thirty minutes away by boat and forty-five minutes by hiking from Posada Amazonas. Here, you’ll paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters and other lakeside wildlife, such as caiman, hoatzin, and horned screamers. Seeing these otters in their natural habitat is an experience you won’t forget.
You’ll also visit the Centro Ñape, a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients who choose their little clinic. Here, you’ll learn about the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants.

03

Hike to Giant Ceiba Tree and Visit to Community Farm for Amazon Crop Diversity in Posada Amazonas Lodge

you’ll hike to the Parrot Clay Lick, where you might see dozens of parrots and parakeets descending on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a riverbank. This natural wonder is a must-see for any nature lover!
You’ll also embark on a two-hour hike to see the largest tree in the vicinity, a giant ceiba tree. During the hike, you’ll learn about the natural history of the rainforest and its principal taxonomic groups.

All meals: From lunch on day one to breakfast on the final day, we offer a variety of delicious Peruvian cuisine in buffet-style meals.

Services not included:

Flights/bus services: Guests are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the town of Puerto Maldonado.
Entrance fee to Tambopata National Reserve: Visitors are required to pay the entrance fee to the reserve directly.
Drinks at the Ecolodge bar: Any drinks ordered at the bar are not included in the package and will be charged separately.
Tips: Gratuity for our staff is not included in the package price, and it is left to the discretion of our guests to tip as they see fit.

Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen: Protect yourself from the strong sun at high altitude with these items.
Hiking shoes: You will be walking on uneven terrain, so comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes are a must.
Water bottle: It’s important to stay hydrated at high altitude, and you can buy a water bottle on the islands if you don’t bring one with you.
Money in soles: The exchange rate for dollars is very low, so it’s best to bring money in the local currency.
Sleeping bag (optional): If you prefer to bring your own sleeping bag, it’s optional.
Rain jacket/rain poncho: The rainy season is from October to March, so it’s essential to have a rain jacket or poncho with you in case of rain.
