01

Jungle Landscapes and Local Cuisine: Discovering the Amazon on a Bus and Boat Journey to Posada Amazonas Lodge

Welcome to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the lush Amazon rainforest. After a 2-hour journey by bus and boat, you’ll arrive at Posada Amazonas Lodge, situated in a private concession owned by the Native Community of Infierno. As you travel to the lodge, indulge in the rich flavors of Amazonian cuisine while taking in the breathtaking views of the jungle landscapes.
Posada Amazonas Lodge is a spacious eco-lodge with a bar, a massage center, and buffet service, offering the perfect blend of comfort and adventure. You’ll stay in a 45-square-meter room with a private bathroom and an open wall facing the forest, providing you with a truly immersive experience.
Your stay includes three delicious meals daily, teas, coffee, guided excursions and activities, refreshments upon arrival, and transfers to and from the airport. Our expert guides are assigned at a ratio of 10:1, ensuring personalized attention and a unique experience.
This afternoon, join a guided group hike to the 40-meter Canopy Tower, accessible through a safe banister staircase running through the middle of the tower. From atop the tower, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the rainforest and the Tambopata River winding through it. Keep an eye out for toucans, parrots, and macaws flying against the horizon, or mixed species canopy flocks landing in the treetops next to you.

Wildlife Spotting and Medicinal Plants: Paddling Around Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake and Learning at Centro Ñape in the Amazon Rainforest

In the Amazon, wildlife is most active during the cooler hours of the day, so we encourage you to join our early-morning activities to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the rainforest.
The Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake is a 30-minute boat ride and 45-minute hike away from Posada Amazonas. You’ll paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caimans, hoatzins, and horned screamers. The otters are most active from dawn to eight or nine AM, so make sure to keep your camera at the ready.
Next, visit the Centro Ñape, a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients in their little clinic. You’ll be led on a trail that explains the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants, providing you with a fascinating insight into the traditional medicinal practices of the Amazonian people.
Finally, as the sun sets, join us for a thrilling night walk to observe the rainforest’s nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat. You’ll have the chance to spot elusive mammals, but what’s more commonly seen are the various species of frogs, each with their unique shapes and sounds.

Sustainable Travel and Direct Impact: Saying Goodbye to the Amazon and Contributing to the Protection of Tambopata

Services not included:

Flights/bus services: Guests are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the town of Puerto Maldonado.
Entrance fee to Tambopata National Reserve: Visitors are required to pay the entrance fee to the reserve directly.
Drinks at the Ecolodge bar: Any drinks ordered at the bar are not included in the package and will be charged separately.
Tips: Gratuity for our staff is not included in the package price, and it is left to the discretion of our guests to tip as they see fit.

Torch/flashlight: It’s essential to have a torch or flashlight with you for any night-time activities or emergencies.
Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen: Protect yourself from the strong sun at high altitude with these items.
Hiking shoes: You will be walking on uneven terrain, so comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes are a must.
Water bottle: It’s important to stay hydrated at high altitude, and you can buy a water bottle on the islands if you don’t bring one with you.
Money in soles: The exchange rate for dollars is very low, so it’s best to bring money in the local currency.
Sleeping bag (optional): If you prefer to bring your own sleeping bag, it’s optional.
Rain jacket/rain poncho: The rainy season is from October to March, so it’s essential to have a rain jacket or poncho with you in case of rain.
