Activities

Day 1

68-kilometer road and boat trip along the Tambopata River to Ecolodge, observe native flora and fauna, explore forest trails, slideshow presentation, guided trail walk at night.

Day 2

Board launch for 9-kilometer ride upriver to trailhead, observe Amazon flora and fauna on trail, visit El Gato macaw lick, observe birdlife, return to Ecolodge for lunch, choose from various activities such as exploring forest trails, visiting nearby forest farm, or relaxing at Ecolodge, brief talk on caimans, search for nocturnal fauna along river.

Day 3

Venture further into the forest to visit Lake Sachavacayoc, short trip downriver by boat, forest trail to lake, observe birdlife and wildlife such as black caiman and green anaconda, paddle across lake, return to Ecolodge in the afternoon, relax or take a dip in Gallocunca stream, get to know other Ecolodge guests in the bar and lounge.

Begin your unforgettable eco-tourism adventure in the lush jungle town of Puerto Maldonado. Our expert staff will meet you at the airport and guide you on an exciting 68-kilometer road and boat trip along the Tambopata River to our luxurious eco-lodge (23 km by vehicle, 45 km by boat). Get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Amazon rainforest as the forest vegetation changes from colonized deforested areas to virgin rainforest.
Experience the thrill of exploring the Tambopata River and discovering native flora and fauna with the help of our experienced naturalist guides. As you embark on your river journey, enjoy a box lunch served aboard our boat and soak in the natural wonders around you.
Upon arrival at our eco-lodge, settle into your comfortable and eco-friendly accommodation before joining your naturalist guide for an exhilarating trail walk in the surrounding forest. Get up close and personal with giant Brazil nut trees, brown capuchin monkeys, agoutis, blue-morpho butterflies, trogons, toucans, and other exotic bird species.
In the evening, join us for a fascinating slideshow presentation that will introduce you to the many wonders of the Amazon rainforest. Afterward, savor a delicious buffet-style dinner before embarking on another guided trail walk in the forest. Spot the world’s only nocturnal monkey species, learn about the Amazon’s insects, and immerse yourself in the unique sounds of the nighttime forest.

02

Forest Trail Walk, Bird Clay Lick, Amazon Flora, Fauna, Scarlet Macaws, Red-and-Green Macaws, Caimans, Nocturnal Fauna

Wake up early to a sumptuous buffet breakfast before boarding our launch for a scenic 9-kilometer (20-minute) ride upriver to the trailhead. Keep your eyes peeled for mammals along the riverbank as we embark on an hour-long walk through the lush forest. Marvel at the diverse Amazon flora and fauna, including the capirona, strangler fig tree, and palo santo, as well as bamboo and several varieties of palm tree.
Our next destination is the El Gato macaw lick, where you can witness the stunning spectacle of scarlet and red-and-green macaws gathering to feed on clay deposits. Spend plenty of time observing the birdlife at the clay lick before returning to the river via another forest trail and taking the launch back to the eco-lodge in time for a buffet lunch.
Afterward, choose from a range of exciting activities, including exploring the network of forest trails around the eco-lodge, visiting a nearby forest farm, bathing in the Gallocunca forest stream, or simply relaxing and enjoying the comfortable facilities of the eco-lodge, including the bar, lounge, gardens, and hammocks.
In the evening, join us for a brief talk by our expert naturalist guides on the fascinating nocturnal predators that inhabit Tambopata’s rivers and lakes. Afterward, we will embark on a thrilling search for caimans and other nocturnal fauna, using flashlights to pick out their “eye shine” as they hunt along the riverbanks. Keep your eyes peeled for snakes and capybaras, which are often seen along the river at night.

03

Lake Sachavacayoc, Wetland Ecosystem, Forest Trail Walk, Birdlife, Black Caiman, Green Anaconda, Amazon Giant River Otter

On this day, we venture deeper into the heart of the forest to visit the stunning wetland ecosystem around Lake Sachavacayoc. After a short boat trip downriver, we will access the lake via a long and fascinating forest trail, crossing streams and marshy ground via raised wooden walkways and bridges. The forests around.

04

Morning River Journey, Flight, Wildlife Observation.

On the final day of your Amazonian adventure, we will bid farewell to the Ecolodge and embark on a tranquil river journey back to Puerto Maldonado for your return flight. This morning trip offers a prime opportunity for wildlife spotting and soaking in the stunning rainforest scenery one last time before departing.

Fully escorted transport: Tambopata Ecolodge provides all guests with transport from Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station to the lodge, as well as return transport at the end of their stay.
Comfortable cabin-style accommodation: Guests will stay in comfortable rooms designed to blend with the surrounding jungle environment.
All meals: Most meals are served buffet-style and include a selection of traditional Peruvian cuisine. Guests will enjoy all meals from lunch on day one to breakfast on the final day.
Responsible ecotourism programs: All excursions described as part of our ecotourism programs are included.
Professional bilingual guide: A professional and experienced bilingual naturalist guide will accompany guests on all excursions. Guides are fluent in both English and Spanish, and other languages are available upon request at the time of booking.

Services Not Included:

Transportation to Puerto Maldonado: Guests are responsible for arranging their own flights or bus services to and from the town of Puerto Maldonado.
Entrance fee to Tambopata National Reserve: The entrance fee to the reserve is not included in the package and must be paid by guests.
Drinks at the Ecolodge bar: Any drinks ordered at the Ecolodge bar are not included in the package and must be paid for separately.
Tips: Tips for guides and lodge staff are not included in the package and are at the discretion of guests.

Things to bring

Warm clothing and light clothing: The temperature can vary quickly, so it’s important to have both warm and light clothing with you.
Torch/flashlight: It’s essential to have a torch or flashlight with you for any night-time activities or emergencies.
Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen: Protect yourself from the strong sun at high altitude with these items.
Hiking shoes: You will be walking on uneven terrain, so comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes are a must.
Water bottle: It’s important to stay hydrated at high altitude, and you can buy a water bottle on the islands if you don’t bring one with you.
Money in soles: The exchange rate for dollars is very low, so it’s best to bring money in the local currency.
Sleeping bag (optional): If you prefer to bring your own sleeping bag, it’s optional.
Rain jacket/rain poncho: The rainy season is from October to March, so it’s essential to have a rain jacket or poncho with you in case of rain.
